Why do people say Sicilians are mixed with Arabs?

Couldn’t it be possible that Sicilians are simply a darker variety of their northern counterparts? Listen, the Arabs were in Sicily for less than 150 years. The Christian crusaders were in Palestine longer (the Kingdom of Jerusalem lasted from 1099 to 1291). So does that mean that Palestinians are really white mixed? Also, the Normans reconquered Sicily and then killed the Arabs or expelled them. My great grandfather was a Sicilian with French ancestry who had blond hair and blue eyes. My father, who is southern Italian, has pale white skin and had blond hair when he was younger.
